History of the Team

The Team formed in the 1920s to serve the needs of Hibernians in Upstate New York, but its region of service has grown to the Northeast and Canada.

One of the few Teams that exist that offer a full precision Marching Team, the Schenectady Degree Team has been performing the Major Degree in traditional fashion for nearly 90 years continuously.

In that period, only a handful of Officers have performed this ritual, owing to the dedication of the members of the Team/

Details

The Schenectady John F. Kennedy Division #1 Degree Team offers Major Degree Exemplification in several ways:

• Yearly Major Degrees are normally scheduled at our Hall (or a New York Capital District Division location) for our membership and the membership of the Capital District Council. Any member who is willing to travel to Schenectady to take their Degrees there is welcome. For scheduled dates, please refer to the Divisoin website and newsletter.
• The Team travels by invitation to other areas and to other Divisions, Regions or States, with logistics and costs developed on a case by case basis.
• State and National Conventions have been utilized as locations where a number of members have gathered and the opportunity utilized to hold a Degre for those members who would otherwise not have exposure to a Major Degree.

Requirements of Candidates

These points are of importance to convey to your candidates:

• Arriving promptly and on time for registration is not only courteous, but also required for any candidate who expects to successfully complete the ritual.
• Proper attire appropriate for an occasion as important as this is expected.
• Candidates should have in their possesion a paid dues card with their membership number, or their Division Financial Secretary needs to vouch for them (or other ranking Officer of his Division or County).
• Knowledge of any expectation of payment of fees at the door, in advance of registration.

The Schenectady AOH, located at 1748 State Street in Schenectady, New York have been in existence since 1880 as a continuous and active Division, contributing to State and National endeavors through its many activities and the support of the respective boards throughout the past 129 years.
